“We are servant leaders who inspire our students to acknowledge their dreams.”

Bread for the World Sponsored the
29th Annual Walk for the Hungry

Saturday, Feb. 27th, 2010

Sophomore Nursing students Stephanie Kazanis and Christine Ulicsni and 400 walkers braved the cold weather and walked for the hungry. The walkers all wore buttons for Vijay Nagendra, a vibrant young boy who passed away this winter. Vijay was very committed to the hungry and to this walk.

Welcome to Campus Ministry
at
Our Lady of Holy Cross College!

Mary Pat Barth

I'd like to welcome students, faculty and staff to the Office of Campus Ministry. Our Mission reflects the Catholic and social justice tradition of the College, respecting the diverse faith traditions of everyone. It is our goal to engage students to be servant leaders and to develop in them the College's core values of compassion, truth, goodness, presence, and service to others. We do this in collaboration with student leaders, staff, faculty and administrators.

Our Office provides daily Mass in the Mater Dei Chapel as well as a non-denominational "quiet room" for anyone to use. Weekly prayer, the Busy Student's Retreat, a Lenten evening of reflection, service projects, the Annual Walk for the Hungry, spiritual direction and special Liturgical events are offered. Check out this site for specific details.

Our Office is located on the First Floor, in the Student Life area, near Classroom 15.

Lenten Thoughts:

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 17th and continues through Holy Thursday with the beginning of the Mass of the Lord's Supper. It's a 40 day period in which we are invited to do some soul-searching and reflection. It's a time to draw closer to our Lord Jesus and to take advantage of some of the spiritual opportunities offered here at OLHCC, i.e. the Walk for Hunger, The Busy Student's Retreat, The Evening of Reflection, Wed. morning weekly prayer. ( all listed below ) Many Churches offer The Stations of the Cross on Friday evenings, Communal Reconciliation Services as well as other spiritual opportunities in which to grow as an individual, couple or family. All of these offerings help us to draw closer to Jesus. Lent is also an excellent time to reach out to our neighbor in some way. Our brothers and sisters in Haiti are still suffering: continue to pray for them, send a donation. A family member may need your help, a neighbor; volunteering at a food bank or any volunteer agency that has a need. Go to the Sacraments! We have a weekday 12 noon Mass right here in the Mater Dei Chapel, which is a real gift. Lent is a wonderful time to experience the Sacrament of Reconciliation as an individual, couple or family. Think of a goal for yourself or your family so that when Easter arrives, you can truly celebrate the risen Lord spiritually.

According to the U.S. Bishops, our Lenten observance includes the following:

  • Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all Fridays during Lent are days of abstinence from meat for everyone 14 years of age and older.
  • Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fasting for everyone from the ages of 18 - 59. Fasting means that you only partake of one full meal and 2 smaller ones.

By the way, we changed our Wed. morning weekly prayer to 7:30 - 7:45a.m.

Daily Mass:

Daily Mass is celebrated in the Mater Dei Chapel at 12 noon. Everyone is welcome. Fr. Anthony DeConciliis

Fr. Anthony DeConciliis, C.S.C., Ph.D., President of Our Lady of Holy Cross College, often celebrates our daily Liturgy in the Mater Dei Chapel.

Weekly Morning Prayer:

Students, faculty and staff are invited to start their day off with prayer!

Every Wednesday, beginning Sept. 9th from 7:30a.m. – 7:45 a.m. in the Mater Dei Chapel. (only when school is in session.)
Everyone is welcome to attend.

Non-denominational Quiet Room

Quiet Room

This room is a "quiet room" for anyone to come to and be still. It is used by many students. It is accessed from inside the Mater Dei Chapel, but is separate from it. The quiet room overlooks nature and offers an oasis from everything. All are welcome to give their minds and hearts a chance to rest. Take a moment to check it out!

Lenten Evening of Reflection:

On Friday, March 5th, Sr. Judy Gomila, M.S.C. & OLHCC Alumna will lead our Lenten Evening of Reflection. The title of her talk is: "The Way of the Cross: Servant Leadership." This evening is co-sponsored by Campus Ministry and Alumni Affairs and is scheduled for 6:30 - 9:00pm in the Moreau Center. Everyone is invited to attend. Please RSVP to 504-398-2279 if you'd like to join us.

tree and quote

The symbol of the tree was very important to Blessed Basil Moreau. Trees surround Our Lady of Holy Cross College beautifying the campus and the courtyards.
