Dr. Patricia Prechter

Professional Experience

Dr. Prechter is a registered nurse with clinical experience primarily with the pediatric population and over thirty-five years in nursing education. Her graduate studies focused on The Effects of Planned Nursing Intervention on the Anxiety Level of Siblings of Children Diagnosed with Life-threatening Diseases and her doctoral studies focused on Impact of Selected Variables on the Critical Thinking Skills of Baccalaureate Nursing Students.Dr. Prechter is one of four nursing faculty who joined the faculty at Our Lady of Holy Cross in 1982 to write the nursing curriculum.

Dr. Prechter was commissioned as an Army Nurse Corp officer in the Louisiana Army National Guard in 1978. After 30 years in the LANG, she retired in January 2008 as a Colonel, State Chief Nurse and Deputy Commander of Louisiana’s Medical Command. Dr. Prechter is a Veteran of Desert Shield/Desert Storm and the first female Colonel in the Louisiana Army National Guard, retiring as the highest ranking female in the Louisiana Army National Guard (LAARNG).

Dr. Prechter has been the Associate Vice President and Dean for Academic Affairs; Chair of the Department of Nursing and Allied Health since July 2008.

Professional Experience
Professor Adorno has been a registered nurse for 27 years. She is also a Parent-Child Clinical Nurse Specialist working at hospitals in the metropolitan area with pediatric clients, childbearing women, newborns and high-risk infants. Professor Adorno is qualified as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and she is certified by the National Certification Corporation for the Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing Specialties as a Maternal Newborn Nurse.
Professor Adorno serves as a Consultant/Member of the Ochsner Westbank Nursing Research Committee and the Oschner Westbank Journal Club.

Academic Experience
Professor Adorno has been an Associate Professor of Nursing at OLHCC since the Fall of 2007. Prior to that she was an Assistant Professor of Nursing at OLHCC. She joined the faculty at OLHCC in 1994 as an Instructor of Nursing.

Anita Althans

Professional Experience
Professor Althans' clinical specialty is Obstetrical Nursing. She has worked in various hospitals in Texas and Louisiana as a staff nurse, Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Department Director in the Maternal- Child and Pediatric areas.

Academic Experience
Professor Althans has taught in the Department of Nursing for 20 years. She teaches in all three levels of the Department of Nursing. She coordinates the introductory nursing course, NSG 200 and teaches Sophomore level health assessment. On the junior level, she teaches the maternity content part of the course and takes students to the hospital for clinical experience. At the senior level, she coordinates NSG 420, the Community Health Nursing course. Professor Althans also supervises students at various clinical sites throughout the city.

Professional Experience
Professor Arcement has been a registered nurse for almost ten years. She has an abundance of experience working in pediatric acute and primary care. Her graduate studies focused on the pediatric population, and she received her Masters of Science in Nursing as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Primary Care.

Academic Experience
Professor Arcement joined OLHCC in the spring of 2007. She is currently teaching with the faculty of Nursing 300, Nursing Care of Childbearing Women and Children; Nursing 302 Pathophysiology; Nursing 420, Community Nursing and Nursing 205 Health Assessment. She has also taught with the Nursing 203, Fundamentals of Nursing course.

Professional Experience
Professor DiMaggio worked for Tulane Hospital and Ochsner Hospital as a registered nurse in the medical surgical and neurological departments. She served as Director of Nursing for a local home health agency and hospice. Professor DiMaggio has completed a preceptorship in “Pallative Care” at Ochsner Foundation Hospital through Loyola University of New Orleans and has completed the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s “Hospice Manager Development Program", Level 1 Designation. She has served as Director of Nursing for a local intermediate care facility.Professor DiMaggio has also completed the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Developmental Disabilities RN Instructors Medication Administration Course. She works in both Quality Improvement and Disease Management for a local managed care organization. Professor DiMaggio was the recipient of the St Louis Medallion from the Archdiocese of New Orleans in 1985.

Professional Experience

Professor Engolio has been a registered nurse for almost ten years. She has a lot of experience working with the pediatric populations. She holds a CPN certification as a pediatric nurse. Her CPN credentials were awarded through the national Pediatric Nursing Certification Board. Her experience includes pediatric medical-surgical, pediatric intensive care, pediatric emergency room, and intermediate care of the neonates. She has over six years of experience working as a preceptor for newly employed nurses and with student nurses working on pediatric units.

Academic Experience
Professor Engolio joined the college in the fall of 2007. At present, she is teaching with the faculty of Nursing 300, Nursing Care of Childbearing Women and Children, Nursing 302, Pathophysiology, and Nursing 203, Fundamentals of Nursing. Professor Engolio assists with the coordination of nursing lab activities and is a Co-Course Coordinator for Nursing 203.

Professional Experience
Prior to assuming the faculty position at Our Lady of Holy Cross College, Dr. Gutowski held various positions in nursing: staff nurse, associate director of nursing, director of nursing for a newly established health care center, consultant and university nursing educator.

Dr. Gutowski is a member of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, Regional Community of St. Louis and has held membership on regional community committees. She has also held membership on a number of Mercy Hospitals and the Board of Directors of the Sisters of Mercy Health System-St. Louis. Her speciality areas are in gerontology and depression.

She is certified as a legal nurse consultant.

Professor McGregor retired from the Louisiana Army National Guard in 2007 after serving thirty years. She served in the Guard as a Lieutenant Colonel and is a veteran of Desert Storm.

Professional Experience
Professor Schexnaydre's primary nursing background is in community nursing and psychiatric nursing. In community nursing she worked overseas in the Sudan in a refugee camp for Ethiopian refugees. She has also worked as a school nurse, a nurse for the Red Cross Blood Services, a home health nurse and in a sexual assault nurse examiner program. Her psychiatric nursing experience includes 10 years as a child psychiatric nurse in inpatient psychiatry.

Professor Schexnaydre has been teaching at OLHCC for 5 years. She also worked at Nicholls State University, Department of Nursing, for two years. Her specialty area is psychiatric mental-health nursing. Currently, she is a volunteer English as a Second Language Instructor for St. Anna’s/Grace Church Latino Apostolate.
