The Thomas E. Chambers Counseling and Training Center
Located on the Our Lady of Holy Cross College campus, the Thomas E. Chambers Counseling and Training Center is a unique facility. Providing counseling services not only for the OLHCC Family and the community at large, it also serves as an educational resource for students pursuing both master's and undergraduate degrees in counseling.
The Counseling and Training Center (CTC) offers a variety of services to students, their families, and members of the community. We can help students with issues related to academic success such as time management, identification of obstacles (ADHD, learning disabilities, etc.), and low confidence. We are also able to provide help with career guidance, lifestyle concerns, relationship issues, parenting, substance use/abuse, and general stress or anxiety.
Services are provided free of charge to students, faculty, and staff of OLHCC. Members of the community pay a nominal fee of $15.00 /per session. The CTC is unable to accept Medicaid or insurance; we are able to accept cash/checks.
Since the Center is a training facility, most counselors are students working on their Masters degree in Counseling, and post-Masters interns working to be Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT). The students are supervised by Approved Supervisors and Faculty.
All records are confidential and are not released to parents, instructors, or college personnel without a student's written authorization. No record of counseling is placed in any student's OLHCC record. If a student is referred to the center by an instructor, the instructor will know if the student attended only if the student signs a release. The only information released would be the number of sessions attended (again, only if the student signs a written release).
The center can be reached through the interior of the college (follow the signs) or by a separate entrance facing Woodland Drive.
Center appointments can be set hourly from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM from Monday through Thursday. Call 398-2168 to arrange for an appointment or simply walk in and talk to the receptionist
Joan M. Fischer LPC, LMFT, NCC serves as the Clinical Director of the Thomas E. Chambers Counseling and Training Center. Counselors are students working on the clinical component of their Master's degree in Counseling and post Master interns working to be Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT). LPC board approved supervisors supervise the students.
The mission of the Counseling and Training Center is four fold:
- To provide students, faculty, and staff of OLHCC quality counseling services at no cost
- To meet local societal needs through the provision of a counseling center as a community resource
- To insure that OLHCC graduate students in the counseling program have optimum opportunities for on the job training in addressing the concerns of a clinically and culturally diverse population
- To provide counseling services to individuals and families with limited economic resources
