What is MMS?

Ø The Minerals Management Service (MMS), a bureau in the U.S. Department of the Interior, is the Federal agency that manages the nation’s natural gas, oil and other mineral resources on the outer continental shelf (OCS). The agency also collects, accounts for and disburses more than $8 billion per year in revenues form Federal offshore mineral leases and from onshore mineral leases on Federal and Indian lands. The program is national in scope and headquartered in Washington, D.C. It includes two major programs, Offshore Minerals Management and Minerals Revenue Management.

OPERATION HELPING HANDS

Work site leader - (AmeriCorps Volunteer Position) Individual will act as on-site supervisor, resource person, and problem solver. The individual will work under the direction of the Work Team Supervisors. The Work Site Leader will be trained in all areas of home rebuilding – insulation, drywall, painting, flooring, carpentry and lead volunteer groups through the rebuilding process. Three, six, nine month or one year commitment required. Volunteer must be committed to ministering to the needs of the elderly. Home Health Aide (PRN position) - This position requires personal care to participants in their home including bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, transfers, lifting, incontinence and catheter care. Position requires basic housekeeping to participants including laundry, meal preparation and general cleaning. Provide medication monitoring and cueing. Must be able to move about freely, lift and turn patient. Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity to see and treat patients, ability to hear and orally communicate. Must be able to maneuver and operate general household equipment. High school diploma/GED, current state Certified Nursing Assistant license and CPR certification.

Physical Therapist (Part-time 20 hours plus benefits) - Responsible for providing physical therapy services for program participants on acute, restorative or maintenance levels in Adult Day Health Center. Evaluates and administers physical therapy treatments to participants, evaluates effectiveness of interventions and modifies services as appropriate. Collaborate on care plans with interdisciplinary team. Develops group therapeutic exercise programs in accordance with participant needs. Occasional in-home treatment may be required. Health Educator, Tulane University

POSITION SUMMARY

The position of Prevention Specialist in the Office of Wellness Services will have primary responsibilities for alcohol screening and assessment services for all first time student offenders. This position will provide clinical group and individual assessment and intervention utilizing the BASICS program. The Prevention Specialist will report directly to the Associate Director of Wellness Services and will be provided clinical supervision through the Student Health Center Substance Abuse Clinic. Additional responsibilities will include developing and delivery prevention and education programs to the Tulane community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s degree in Public Health, Education, Health Education, Social Work, Psychology or Counseling.
  2. Experience working in a college health or substance abuse setting preferred
  3. Demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly with all constituents (students, faculty, administration, medical providers, and other members of the surrounding community)
  4. Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, power point, web management, statistical analysis packages, report writing etc.
  5. Knowledge of alcohol and substance abuse issues in higher education.
  6. Knowledge of primary prevention and harm reduction strategies
  7. Ability to work within student learning, community development and public health models.

  • Conduct group sessions for BASICS

  • Accurately interpret BASICS feedback assessment results and communicate results to the student.
  • Consult with and receive clinical supervision from the clinicians in the Student Health Center Substance Abuse Clinic.
  • Provide consultation around treatment and referral for substance abuse/addiction issues to SHC clinicians.

30% Education Initiatives

  • Provide accurate education during the BASICS individual feedback sessions.
  • Create and conduct presentations/trainings for comprehensive prevention programs, BASICS Program efficacy, and best practices in prevention science
  • Deliver training and outreach programs such as summer orientation to the Tulane community, including to students, parents, faculty, administration and staff.
  • Use specialized knowledge and research skills to create culturally competent and age appropriate materials for university community populations
  • Develop, write, edit and evaluate a broad range of print and web-based publications.
