College Essentials

During the general presentation, we will provide you with an overview of college essentials to not only help you succeed, but to also thrive during your time as a student here. You will: get information on financial aid opportunities that will help you pay for school; learn how freshmen who are involved in clubs, organizations, and sports tend to be happier and graduate; get info about the technology offered to support your education; find out about FREE tutoring services and other academic assistance; get instructions on activating ADA accommodations for those with disabilities; and much more!

Get Advised

A big part of Freshmen Orientation is getting advised. You will have the opportunity to meet with your academic advisor, who will help you pick out which classes to take, and develop your schedule.

Register for Classes

After meeting with your academic advisor, you will then register for your classes. This will be done before you leave for the day. Please, note that for future registration, you will take advantage of Early Registration, which allows you to have first choice of available classes! We strongly encourage students to use their Self Service accounts, and take advantage of Early Registration.

Pay for Classes

To assist you in paying for the classes for which you have registered, our Bursar team is available to accept payments. You may pay by check or credit card. Payment arrangements are also offered for students who cannot pay for their classes at registration.

Financial Aid Advising

Students receiving financial aid will the opportunity to meet one on one with their assigned financial aid counselor. You will learn about the status of your FAFSA, scholarship, or other aid, as well as any outstanding documents you need to submit in order to complete the award process.

IT/Self Service

Technology is an essential part of being a student at OLHCC. Our IT (Information Technology) team will be on hand for the day to provide you with your Self Service login information, help you set up your OLHCC email accounts, and answer any technology-related questions you may have about the College.

College IDs & Parking Passes

The student ID card is a necessary part of gaining your membership into the College community. At orientation, you will get your photo taken and have your ID card printed the same day. This card will also serve as your debit card for bayou bucks to use in the Hurricane Café, gift shop, and vending machines on campus.

You will also have the chance to secure your parking pass, which allows you to legally park in student-designated areas on campus. Please, be sure to bring your insurance cards and vehicle registration for the vehicle you plan to use throughout the semester.
