OLHCC supports Scholastic Book Fair

During the fall semester, Our Lady of Holy Cross College students, alumni and alumnae, faculty, and staff supported the Christmas Scholastic Book Fair at Murray Henderson Elementary School. Special thanks are to be extended to Dr. Claudia Champagne, who led the effort on behalf of Our Lady of Holy Cross College. Dr. Champagne is an Associate Professor of English and the English Program Coordinator for the College.
The Book Fair was a great success. The students and their parents enjoyed the activities and appreciated being able to shop for books they wanted to read. Scholastic made a video documenting the success of the Fair at Henderson.
Our Lady of Holy Cross College was the ONLY organization to sponsor a book fair at a New Orleans Recovery School District school. Scholastic is using this video to encourage sponsorship of other schools. Here is the link to the video:

Now, Scholastic is organizing the second Book Fair of the year at Henderson, to be held during the second week of March. While we had more than enough donations to sponsor the first fair, we need more contributions for the second one. To date, the total is $1060 short of the goal. (We've collected $3940 thus far and the cost of each fair is $2500.) If you were unable to give before Christmas, I hope you will consider doing so now. And if you gave in 2008, please consider a 2009 contribution as well, since all donations are tax deductible.
No amount is too small, and every dollar is much appreciated by the children. Every $5.00 donated gives a needy child a book. For additional information, please contact Dr. Champagne at cchampagne@olhcc.edu mailto:cchampagne@olhcc.edu.
