FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Our Lady of Holy Cross College to launch new ONLINE
R.N. to B.S.N. Nursing Program in August 2009

New Orleans, LA - December 31, 2008 - Our Lady of Holy Cross College will launch a new ONLINE R.N. to B.S.N. nursing degree program in August 2009. This program is designed specifically to provide registered nurses (R.N.'s) in need of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (B.S.N.) with an opportunity to achieve the bachelor's degree in a convenient format.

The online R.N. to B.S.N. curriculum option can be completed by the student in a three semester, four semester or five semester plan. The three semester plan is designed to be completed within one calendar/academic year. The four and five semester plans follow a traditional fall-spring or spring-fall orientation with the five semester plan having an optional summer semester should the student not wish to follow the traditional fall-spring, spring-fall orientation.

The initiation of the online R.N. to B.S.N. curriculum resulted after OLHCC surveyed community needs in reference to easing the healthcare crisis post-Katrina within the metropolitan New Orleans area and expand curriculum offerings to meet those healthcare needs. Local healthcare institutions expressed support for the development of an online R.N. to B.S.N. curriculum option under the auspices of the OLHCC Department of Nursing.

Baccalaureate nursing programs encompass all of the course work taught in associate degree and diploma programs plus a more in-depth treatment of the physical and social sciences, nursing research, public and community health, nursing management, nursing leadership and the humanities. The additional course work enhances the student's professional development and critical thinking ability, prepares the new nurse for a broader scope of practice and for leadership positions, and provides the nurse with a better understanding of the cultural, political, economic, and social issues that affect patients and influence health care delivery. Throughout the last decade, policymakers, practice leaders and researchers have all recognized that education makes a difference in how nurses practice.

There is a growing body of evidence that shows that B.S.N. graduates bring unique skills to their work as nursing clinicians and play an important role in the delivery of safe patient care.

Come experience the Holy Cross tradition!!

Our Lady of Holy Cross College, founded in 1916 by the Marianites of Holy Cross, has played a major role in the education of a diverse New Orleans student body. The College is part of the Catholic educational system developed by the Congregation of Holy Cross which includes such institutions as, the University of Notre Dame, Saint Edward's University and the University of Portland. Over fifty percent of the College's students come from the East Bank of the Mississippi River and a majority of the students remain in the area. They teach the children of the community, take care of loved ones when they are ill, operate the businesses that citizens depend on, minister in Churches and social agencies, and volunteer their time to the city they call home. In short, the quality of their OLHCC education has an impact on the quality of life in metropolitan New Orleans and Louisiana. For more information, see the OLHCC web site, www.olhcc.edu.
