Our Lady of Holy Cross College offers free income tax preparation and electronic filing for tax payers with incomes $52,000 and below on Mondays from Feb. 3 through April 14 (except March 3) at the college, 4123 Woodland Dr. in the Algiers neighborhood. Individuals taking advantage of the e-file program will receive their refunds in half the time compared to returns filed on paper- even faster when tax refunds are deposited directly into one's bank account.

Tax accounting student interns, specially trained and certified by the IRS, prepare basic tax returns for low-to-moderate income taxpayers who do not itemize deductions.  They also can help tax payers with special tax credits such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Education Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled.  Our Lady of Holy Cross College offers the tax assistance through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA).   Tax assistance is available from 9 am until 5 pm in the college's room 17.  Use the Moreau Center entrance, closest to the parking lot. Follow the signs to Room 17 next to the elevator. In order to complete your tax return, please arrive no later than 4 p.m.
Free parking is available.  Persons interested in learning more about the free tax assistance program may call 504-398-2230.

"We at Our Lady of Holy Cross College are pleased to offer this public service again this year," says  President Ronald J. Ambrosetti, PhD. "Our skilled Accounting student interns have undergone rigorous training to become certified to help taxpayers.  They do an excellent job of helping our community through this service.."

Lillian S. Grose, CPA, MBA, Assistant Professor, Accounting, who coordinates the program at the college, explains, "Our talented accounting students eagerly go through the training and certification to volunteer with tax preparation.  Qualified tax payers can simply come to the college and have their returns prepared and filed at no cost.  We're pleased to participate once again in the VITA program because it's such a beneficial community service."

Those qualifying for assistance should bring the following to the VITA site to have your tax returns prepared:
