Susan van Loon, Dr.P.H.

Department/Program: Biology and Natural Sciences


Dr. van Loon has been a member of the faculty of Our Lady of Holy Cross College since 1978. She serves as coordinator of the Department of Natural Sciences and College Program Director of Allied Health Educational Programs at Ochsner Clinic Foundation. She earned a Doctor of Public Health degree from Tulane University, studying the epidemiology of smoking in adolescents, and is a member of Delta Omega, the public health honor society. While at Tulane, she was awarded an internship to pursue research on tobacco control issues at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Dr. van Loon was the first director of the International Studies Program at Our Lady of Holy Cross College and continues to take an active interest in the promotion and development of international study opportunities at the College. In 2005, she was selected to be one of six lay participants attending the International Session in Holy Cross Spirituality in Le Mans, France. Most recently, she has been involved with preparing the College for its reaffirmation of accreditation, assisting with academic compliance and the development of the Quality Enhancement Plan. She currently teaches courses in Human Anatomy and Physiology and Human Nutrition.
