Department/Program: Nursing and Allied Health
Ms. Schexnaydre's primary nursing background is in psychiatric/mental health nursing and in community health nursing. In community nursing she worked overseas in the Sudan in a refugee camp for Ethiopian refugees. She has also worked as a school nurse, a nurse for the Red Cross Blood Services, a home health nurse and in a sexual assault nurse examiner program. Her psychiatric nursing experience includes 10 years as a child psychiatric nurse in inpatient psychiatry.
Professor Schexnaydre joined the faculty of OLHCC in 1994. She also taught at Nicholls State University, Department of Nursing, for two years. Her specialty area is psychiatric mental-health nursing. She was a volunteer instructor of English as a Second Language (ESL) for St. Anna’s Latino Apostolate, Oportunidades Nola. Ms. Schexnaydre is also interested in transcultural nursing and the health care needs of underserved populations. Professor Schexnaydre is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, International Society of Psychiatric Nurses.M.S.N. University of South Alabama
