Dr. O’Neill joined OLHCC in 1990. Her clinical practice has been in New York, Wisconsin, Texas prior to Louisiana. Dr. O’Neill is an Advanced Practice RN as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, with a clinical background in neonatal intensive care. Dr. O’Neill was selected as a “Great 100 Nurse” by the New Orleans District Nurses Association.
Dr. O’Neill’s research has been in historical nursing, with her dissertation entitled, “I Wanted to Do Something for the Country: Experiences of Military Nurses during World War II.” Dr. O’Neill has presented her research at local, regional, national and international conferences on nursing history, children’s health post Hurricane Katrina, and nursing quality. Dr. O’Neill has served as a peer reviewer for Advances in Neonatal Care and Nursing History Review. She has co-authored a chapter in a book of nursing roles in disasters as well as ostomy care in Jordan. Dr. O’Neill is a peer reviewer for nursing textbooks on community health, nursing research and other nursing topics for publishers. Dr. O’Neill developed the online RN to BSN program at OLHCC and serves as faculty in this program. She is a member of the American Nurses Association, American Association of the History of Nursing, Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nursing, National Association of Neonatal Nursing, and Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society. Dr. O’Neill was selected as an AACN Leadership for Academic Nursing Fellow. A Fulbright Scholar to Jordan for 2011-2012, Dr. O’Neill taught in the PhD program at the University of Jordan and presented at the University of Jordan Nursing Scientific Day as well as the Jordan University of Science and Technology Nursing Journal Club.Ph.D. University of Miami
