Dr. O'Neill joined the faculty at OLHCC in 1990. Prior to this, Dr. O'Neill had a clinical practice in New York, Wisconsin, and Texas. She is the Course Coordinator for Nursing 420, Community Health Nursing. Dr. O'Neill holds an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. Her clinical background is neonatal nursing and she has over 20 years experience as a neonatal clinician, ranging from intensive care to well baby care. She holds a certification from NCC in neonatal nursing. Dr. O'Neill was selected as a “Great 100 Nurse” by the New Orleans District Nurses Association. Dr. O'Neill's doctoral dissertation was entitled "I Wanted to do Something for the Country": Experiences of Military Nurses in World War II. Dr. O'Neill was recognized by the University of Miami with awards for Academic Excellence from the Graduate School and Excellence in Leadership from the School of Nursing. She traveled to Cuba as People to People Ambassador for perinatal health. Dr. O'Neill has published book reviews for the Nursing History Review. She has presented her research at the American Association for the History of Nursing Annual Conference, the Southern University Annual Research Day and at the local Sigma Theta Tau chapter. She is a member of AAHN (American Association for the History of Nursing), Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Xi Psi Chapter-at-Large), AWHONN (Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric & Neonatal Nurses), NANN (National Association of Neonatal Nurses), and LANN (Louisiana Association of Neonatal Nurses).
