Alvin Montgomery, M.A., Professor Emeritus

Professor Emeritus, Al Montgomery was a faculty member of Our Lady of Holy Cross College since 1998, first as an adjunct instructor and later as a full-time assistant professor. He served as the coordinator of the Behavioral Sciences Division of the Department of Counseling and Behavioral Sciences of the college. He earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Southeastern Louisiana University. Professor Montgomery has also taken graduate courses beyond his Masters at LSU, Southern University, UNO, and Texas Tech. Professor Montgomery is a state licensed Professional Counselor, a State approved Counselor in Training Supervisor, and a state licensed Addictions Counselor. He is the past president of the William Glasser Institute where he served as the President of the Institute’s International Advisory Board. He is currently a Senior Faculty Member of the Institute. He has taught counseling seminars across the United States and in Ireland and Australia. He is also certified in hypnotherapy. He previously taught at Delgado Community for over ten years. At Our Lady of Holy Cross College he was the advisor, and is a member, of Pi Gamma Mu, International Social Sciences Honor Society; Kappa Gamma Pi, National Catholic College Graduate Honor Society; Phi Alpha Theta, National History College Honor Society; and Chi Sigma Iota, the Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International. While at Our Lady of Holy Cross, Professor Montgomery researched, collaborated, and developed, the current social counseling, addiction counseling, applied behavioral science, and psychology degrees. He is an original member of the school’s Enrollment Management Committee, which is committed to making students first years at OLHCC as smooth, and successful, as possible.
