Dr. Martin has been a registered nurse for twenty-eight years, with eighteen years in nursing education. She is a Certified Patient Educator, credentialed through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Dr. Martin is Course Coordinator for Nursing 402 Perspectives in Nursing. Primary teaching areas are Community Health Nursing, Leadership and Management in Nursing, and Nursing Care of Children.
Dr. Martin’s doctoral studies focused on quality improvement in health care and clinical practice specific to health literacy and medication management. Her study, Improving Medication Management Among At-Risk Older Adults, was published in the Journal of Gerontological Nursing, 2012. Dr. Martin is the faculty counselor for Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, Xi Psi Chapter-At-Large. She is also a member of the American Nurses Association, The National League of Nursing, and the Louisiana State Nurses Association. She was awarded the Cynthia H. Frances Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Hospital Endowed Professorship II in Nursing, 2009-2011. Dr. Martin is a recipient of the 2012 Edna Stilwell Writing Award, Journal of Gerontological Nursing.
