Sr. Helen Fontenot, Ed.S.

Abstract

Sr. Helen Fontenot, M.S.C., Associate Professor, has been a member of the faculty of Our Lady of Holy Cross College since 1976. She served as Director of Student Teaching from 1977 – 1992 and Director of Library Services from 1983 – present. During these years she has served as officer and board member for various education and library associations at the local, state, and national level. Sr. Helen served as recording secretary for the Executive Committee and the Board of Regents of OLHCC for eight years.

Sr. Helen served on the planning committee for the two renovations and additions to the library in 1989 and in 1995. In 1989, she honored the request of former OLHCC President, Fr. Thomas E. Chambers, to organize the Friends of the Library which now has a membership of 300.

Sr. Helen is a past recipient of the Industrial Metals of the South Endowed Professorship. In addition, she has received the following awards: Patriot Employer - Support of National Guard and Reserve (2006), Employer Certification of Appreciation - Louisiana Air National Guard (2006), Outstanding Marianite of the Year Alumni Award (1997), Louisiana Association of Educators President’s Award (1993), Institution of the Sr. Helen Fontenot Outstanding Cooperating Teacher Award (1993), and Sr. Mary Aquin Lorio Memorial Award – Greater New Orleans – Catholic Library Association (1988).
