Professional Experience
Dr. Prechter is a registered nurse with clinical experience primarily with the pediatric population and over thirty-five years in nursing education. Her graduate studies focused on The Effects of Planned Nursing Intervention on the Anxiety Level of Siblings of Children Diagnosed with Life-threatening Diseases and her doctoral studies focused on Impact of Selected Variables on the Critical Thinking Skills of Baccalaureate Nursing Students. Dr. Prechter is one of four nursing faculty who joined the faculty at Our Lady of Holy Cross in 1982 to write the nursing curriculum.
Dr. Prechter was commissioned as an Army Nurse Corp officer in the Louisiana Army National Guard in 1978. After 30 years in the LANG, she retired in January 2008 as a Colonel, State Chief Nurse and Deputy Commander of Louisiana’s Medical Command. Dr. Prechter is a Veteran of Desert Shield/Desert Storm and the first female Colonel in the Louisiana Army National Guard, retiring as the highest ranking female in the Louisiana Army National Guard (LAARNG).
Academic Experience
Dr. Prechter was named Interim Provost August 2011. She remains Chair of the Department of Nursing and Allied Health.

She was awarded the Notre Dame Class of 56 Endowed Professorship II and the Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Foundation Endowed Professorship III while serving at the College. Professor Adorno has been a registered nurse for over 25 years. She is also a Parent-Child Clinical Nurse Specialist working at hospitals in the metropolitan area with pediatric clients, childbearing women, newborns and high-risk infants. Professor Adorno is qualified as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and she is certified by the National Certification Corporation for the Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing Specialties as a Maternal Newborn Nurse.
Professor Adorno serves as a Consultant/Member of the Ochsner Westbank Nursing Research Committee and the Oschner Westbank Journal Club.

Professor Althans has taught in the Department of Nursing for 22 years. She teaches in the junior and senior levels of the Department of Nursing. On the junior level, she teaches the maternity content. On the senior level, she is the Course Coordinator for NSG 420, the Community Health Nursing course. Professor Althans also supervises students at various clinical sites throughout the city. She also teaches in the Online RN to BSN program and serves as the Program Coordinator.

Professional Experience
Professor DiMaggio worked for Tulane Hospital and Ochsner Hospital as a registered nurse in the medical surgical and neurological departments. She served as Director of Nursing for a local home health agency and hospice. Professor DiMaggio has completed a preceptorship in “Pallative Care” at Ochsner Foundation Hospital through Loyola University of New Orleans and has completed the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization's "Hospice Manager Development Program", Level 1 Designation. She has served as Director of Nursing for a local intermediate care facility.Professor DiMaggio has also completed the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Developmental Disabilities RN Instructors Medication Administration Course. Professor Engolio has been a registered nurse for over eleven years. Her experience primarily involves working with acutely ill pediatric populations. She holds a CPN certification as a pediatric nurse. Her CPN credentials were awarded through the national Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB). She was also selected as a PNCB CPN item writer. She is BLS AND PALS certified. Her experience includes acute pediatric medical-surgical, pediatric intensive care, pediatric emergency room, and intermediate care of the neonates. She has experience working as a preceptor for newly employed nurses and with student nurses on pediatric units.

Prior to assuming the faculty position at Our Lady of Holy Cross College, Dr. Gutowski held various positions in nursing: staff nurse, associate director of nursing, director of nursing for a newly established health care center, consultant and university nursing educator.

Her masters project was titled “Recognizable behavioral indicators of the clinically dependent nurse who is actively using as identified by nurse manager in the workplace”. She was a clinical orientation instructor nurse on the medical surgical unit at East Jefferson General Hospital for 5 years.. She was a Great 100 Nurse in 1994.
