As a nontraditional student, OLHCC guided me as I worked toward an undergraduate degree then toward a teaching certificate. The knowledge and availability of the faculty and administration gave me a feeling of security and the confidence to persevere. As I walked down the halls of OLHCC, warmth, friendly faces, and Catholic spirit was to be found around every corner. It was apparent that the college had a specific purpose: to educate the whole person academically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally.

My years at OLHCC have definitely had a positive impact on the success I have in my career, the alumni relationships that continue to help me grow, and the Catholic faith that is ever present in my life. From the beginning of my undergraduate degree in business to the obtaining of teacher certification, I experienced an overwhelming satisfaction in learning from others and the desire to pass that knowledge on in order to help others grow.

More than anything the dignity and reputation of OLHCC has opened the door to many opportunities that may not have come so easily or may not have come at all. Molding, shaping, and preparing me to face the challenges of the future were the key to my success, and OLHCC knew that it was not just knowledge but character and faith that were an integral part of education. After many years of teaching, it becomes more evident with time that education is not only what occurs in a classroom. Education is an on going culmination of life's experiences.

My advice to future students would be to open your eyes and look around you. A family is waiting to guide you in your endeavors. Open your hearts! You may have much to give but you are about to receive more than you can ever imagine. Open your minds! There are many challenges to face and much to learn that will contribute to your success. Most importantly, open your soul to the ever present Catholic faith that lives on in every aspect of OLHCC.

The college has changed a great deal since my days there. It has already made great strides and gone in many directions that were lacking when I was a student. Great improvements continue in enrollment, marketing, campus life, alumni relations, curriculum, etc. The rising cost of tuition is a concern for me. It makes it difficult for me to return at the graduate level until I can pay for my children to go to college.

After spending 7 years at OLHCC, the memory I am most fond of is graduation day. Accepting my diploma in front of my family and friends, fellow students, and teachers was an unforgettable experience. I was proud of myself, but most of all I was elated with how proud OLHCC was of me for working hard and becoming an OLHCC graduate with dignity and honor. My personal favorite memory is the day a certain police officer walked into class (late! Because of his job) and made it very clear he would be an educator some day. That man is now my husband who graduated with a Masters in Administration & Supervision.

If I could do it all over again, I would definitely choose Our Lady of Holy Cross College. During my college years, OLHCC was my home away from home … my second family.
